Yesterday at Google I/O the first two official consumer and business Chrome netbooks or “Chromebooks” were shown off to the public. The Chromebooks represents Google’s replacement of the common operating system architecture that many people are fimilar with. You don’t log into Windows or OSX on a Chromebook, instead from the moment you turn it on it launches into a super lightweight and customized version of the Chrome web browser in under 10 seconds. The Chromebooks are dependent on internet access and the cloud to be truly useful, so every Chromebook has both with WiFi and 3G models. Users log into a Chromebook using their Google account and from there can access the full web and even download and install certain web applications. Obviously Chromebooks are centered around users that rely on Google Apps for their day to day lives, like Gmail and Google Docs. The Chromebooks are the first laptops that live only in the cloud and are available to purchase on June 15th.
